44inch deck chop
Think I might cut off the 8 inches of excess deck that sticks out past the blades on the 44 inch deck under my 1650. The excess is preventing me from getting in between a few places. Comments please.

I cut my 50C a little on the discharge end also.

Save what you circumcise, because you might find out the debris tend to fly up more than you intended.:bigthink:

I certainly wouldn't cut all the way back til the blade tip was even with the edge of the deck! If it's that much in the way, I'd look for a 38" or even a 42" "triangle" deck and hanger. If anyone ever got hurt you'd be opening yourself wide open for major issues
You MIGHT be able to take a couple of inches off, max. |
I have a Gravely 24G with a 72 inch cut deck,, the discharge chute is removed.
I really like it, the mower can be used like a rear discharge mower,, and cut right up against both sides. I do slow the engine down, if I am near a building, so the clippings do not blow back,, that really depends on wind direction. I have ZERO regrets about removing the chute,,, :bigthink: The resultant opening is kinda "GIANT",,, (right side in the pic) https://www.mytractorforum.com/galle...-inch-deck.gif |
I have seen a picture of one where someone cut a little off, and put it back on with a hinge so you could just lift it up in tight spaces.

After I retired last year I went to work mowing grass 3 days a week at Watkins Glenn International race track, BTW NASCAR is there this weekend. They put me on a Newholland Boomer 55 with a 72" deck. 55 turbocharged hp of awesome power will make the grass fly. The deck discharge chute was a thick rubber flap that would deform and move out of the way when getting close to a poll or other obstacle . Worked great.

Ya'll might get funky with what I did to my mower deck,
I cut the front out. It mows though anything. But I have to be a lot more careful when I mow now. Especially by the road and I always make sure that I keep grass off of the road. It's really dangerous to cycles on the road. I sweep it off if any gets on there. |
