Kohler K301A
 

Does anyone know if the Cub Kohlers fit in other tractors? For example, I have a 123 and a 125. Will the Kohler K301A from one of the Cubs fit in a Case 222 with the same number(K301A)? I heard something that they can’t be swapped because Cub used a different shaft. Thank you’

"Generally speaking" Kohler builds various versions (Specification number) of a basic model for different OEM's. A K301 in a Cub Cadet will be different than a K301 in a John Deere, and so forth. Crank size & length, Carb, Oil Pans, and cooling are a few of the variations.

BUT.....with a little ingenuity, engineering, modification(s), metal, cutting torch, and a welder, something can be done to make it fit.

FWIW, here are crankshaft pics from a Cub 122 (left) & Case 222 (right) parts manuals. They do have different parts numbers. I had a Case 224, the Case has the pto on the flywheel side and it is a totally different arrangement from the Cub's which is on the non-flywheel side. It looks like the Cub crank has a longer shaft on the non-flywheel side to accommodate for the basket/mule drive pulley. Except for the starter/generators, which turn opposite directions, I think the engines would swap but your pto and mule drive would be the issue.
