Well an update on my new 1863. Looks like I might have been snookered by someone unfortunately. I got it all cleaned up and was doing a little mowing with it today and after about 10 or 15 minutes I noticed the fuel pump vent was putting out a little oil. Then it started really coming out and it was running and dying. Start it up, it would run for a second or two and then die. Choke it and could get it to run for a few seconds longer but would eventually die. Finally got it to stay running and put it in the shop. I did go out the next day and it started right up and ran good. Guessing a piston or head gasket issue.

Why would you think it's a piston or head gasket? If your fuel pump vent is leaking, i think the fuel pump may be going bad. Pull both plugs to get an idea of how each cylinder is running. Mike
