Ready to start up rebuilt engine on my 129...how important to check rpm?

Just wondering...the mechanic who put together the engine for me indicated that the high speed limit (3600) really should be checked before using the tractor. He said he'd come out to my place and help with this, but he's also dealer and so sort of hate to bother him during the busy mowing season. I don't have a tachometer, but came across a thread here that suggested one of these non-contact laser tach that utilizes reflective tape, so could easily pick up one of those. I didn't change any governor settings when reinstalling all the other components, nor have the carb settings been changed at all.

I appreciate thoughts on this and any other 'should do' items since I don't want to ruin several months of work - it's been a rather long process beginning with the original engine snapping the rod last summer. Thanks...

I should also mention that time is of the essence with this - I really need to get this thing running asap and mowing a few woods paths that desperately need it before the weeds completely take over!

BTW...I have my old K301 block - cleaned it up and am trying to to sell it. Has all the internals (except, of course, for the broken rod) and just had valve work done to it shortly before the rod incident.

Too low a RPM will make the engine work harder than it should and too high may scatter parts ( extreme)

You've spent good money and time getting it done, finish it correctly. Have him set the high RPM.

Plus, if there is a problem, he knows he set it.

How is it set? Just by loosening and adjusting the high speed stop bracket? Certainly seems easy enough, although a good point about having the guy do it since then it's sort of on him. We actually never discussed any warranty, etc. Probably should.

Zionsville, huh? You're only about 40 minutes from me....never been there but I have family in the Allentown and Macungie area.
