Hy-Tran Fluid Question
The manual calls for Hy-Tran Fluid "or" SAE- 30 engine oil in the transmission. Any preferences? Would some JD trans fluid work just as well? I happen to have plenty of that at the farm for my utility tractor. Thanks

The manual for what????
|
Sorry, I always forget to say it is CC 100. Thanks

Can't get much cheaper the 30 wt.
That's what all my gear drives get when changed |

I use 2 fluids in these machines,, Hy Tran equivalent,, and Hy Tran equivalent.
Hy Tran equivalent is $25 for five gallons at TSC,, My Gravely 24G does use 30WT in the transmission,, but, automatic transmission fluid in the hydraulic system,, I would prefer one oil,, like Hy Tran Equivalent,, ::bigeyes: Did I mention that in Cub Cadets I prefer Hy Tran Equivalent?? :bigthink: :biggrin2: |
I use the hy Tran equivalent from tsc as well in the hydros. SAE 30 in gear drives like your 100. No issues

Back then, I assumed the 30WT oil message for the transmission was a note included for owners outside of the USA,,where getting Hy-Tran may be next to impossible. The Hy-Tran is so much closer to the design application of the transmission as compared to engine oil, I would never use engine oil in a gearbox,,, I remember reading about additives that are in hydraulic oil that are much better at lubricating bearings and sliding parts than engine oil. The additives (which I think one is zinc? :bigthink:) would not work so well in an internal combustion engine. All that being said,, these machines are so over-designed,, the choice of either oil is probably of little concern, Clean oil is probably MUCH more important than type of oil, especially in a gear drive. |
