2" hitch ball?
 

Can I put a 2" hitch ball on my 149 to back up my sailboat into the back yard? It's 2000 pounds, single axle trailer. It would be a lot easier to back it into the yard rather than using my truck.

I'm in Miami, there are no grades. I'm talking flat grass, around the corner of my lot to the driveway.

I just don't know if there's enough "meat" in the rear hitch hole for a 2" ball.

Hitch weight is 200 pounds, so that should be nothing for the tractor.

It will tow it and back it no problem zimm. No grades here so you’ll be ok, just like everyone says towing and stopping something are 2 different things. The only drawback is the st Augustine grass that’s real soft but you know that already living in Fl. I just moved a double axle oldschool RV with my 102 in a guys yard as it needed to be in a very tight spot that no truck could maneuver, no issues. A lot of my cubs have been modified before I got them to move boats, even one that had a front mount receiver.

You will require a 2" ball with a 3/4" shank.

Will it move it? Yes it will. ANYTHING resembling a grade or if it's wet and ALL best are off. You will find yourself on "Mr Toad's Wild Ride" as the boat pushes you anywhere it wants. If you luck out, it'll stay straight. If it gets you sideways ....:bigeyes:

My pop up is 1500 LBS empty, requires a 2" ball. I can only get a 1 7/8 ball into my 147 drawbar. I give it 1/2-3/4 throttle, take my time and shove it around with that. Yeah it bangs a little bit when I'm going or stopping, but I'm only going 1/2 MPH. Oh and I have some grades on my property too.

Here’s a home made deal that’s on the rear of a 128 in my cub graveyard. Never used it personally. I have used different models of cub cadets to pull things beyond crazy/dumb...... just be careful and take it slow

I have hauled my 1320 with my 147 before, and didn’t do any damage. Just stay off hills, and go slow.

What are options for mounting the ball? Will a "sleeve hitch" work? I've never seen one. The little metal tab on the back of the axle is way too low to work with a trailer.

Some people have done what Mr Mowl has shown above with adapting a 2 inch receiver to rear diff plate or also fabbed it up higher to bolt to the frame
