Painted Hydro Cooling Fins

With the rear fenders off, I have been cleaning up the frame and trans and running a thread chaser through all the bolt holes. I noticed the hydro has been painted at some point in time and the cooling fins are painted. Should I remove as much of this as I can or will it be ok?

I took all the paint off my 127 as it didn't have the cooling fan. I've read that there should be no paint to help with effective cooling. Steel wool, a wire brush and 15 minutes...

I think he is talking about the cooling fins on the hydro itself, not the fan! I would not want paint on this as it will hold the heat in ! But thats just me !

That is what I was thinking too, I'll get my wire brush in there as best as I can... Thanks for the input..
