1872 Flywheel Magnet Polarity?

After making an ungodly racket and then shearing the flywheel key, I pulled the Mag 18 out of my new 1872 and discovered that two of the flywheel magnets had come unglued. They were side by side, and I didn't really pay much attention to their position before I removed them and cleaned and re-attached them to the flywheel. Now it won't charge properly. I get around 8Vac at idle and maybe 12ish at WOT from the two outer leads of the VR. The tractor charged fine up until the key sheared. Everything else is clean and connected properly. Is there a polarity to the magnets where if I put them in 'backwards' I would get the readings I'm getting now? I'm out of ideas otherwise...:bigthink:

Yes they have to be n/s polarity and spaced properly.

Also check that you didn't damage the wiring/short to ground/or open.

Yup. What George said. Im guessing you mixed up the 2 when you put them back in.

Thanks, guys. I'll pull it back apart and get it right this time. Debating on the JB Weld vs. Gorilla Glue...
