How come my 129 moves so fast(way to fast to mow).You move the lever very litle and a way it gos.Any ideas.Thanks

more than likely the hydro lever linkages are worn (ball joints). Another good possibility is the trunion is also worn.

I just fixed mine on a 127.

My 1450 has a similar issue. Not a lot of speed control, and the "neutral" position is about 2" in reverse. I have to move the lever in the forward position about 1/2 way until it engages. Does this all sound like the same problem you mentioned above?

i redid my linkage on my trunnion a month ago on my 125 and it was night and day difference, now granted mine had 40 years of wear on them but now it works the way it did the day it was purchased. while i had it all apart i changed out and replace the springs and spring buttons, on a 125 this is a major PIA because there is no access tower and every thing must be pulled apart to get to everything and while starting it i was wondering if all this would be worth the effort and i can tell you i would do it in a heartbeat.

So should I just replace everything? 1450 has pretty easy access.

on mine springs and buttons were a cheap easy fix 20 bucks for the 2 springs and 2 buttons, only hard part was tear down and welding that needed done.i do not have a mig here still stuck in the 70,s i guess, so i did the weld filling with oxy-acetylene and a coat hanger then cleaned everything up with a grinder and file for a snug fit but not tight. reasembled and worked like new.

I would replace the works, I went with the heim joints instead of ball joints... The issue with mine was it would "fall" out of neutral into reverse. I also did the trunion fix as mentioned in that link along with the shims and stuff. I don't have my tractor 100% back together yet, but from what I've moved it around it's night and day, everything "stays" in place now.

Catching up on reading after being out of town, having MORE car trouble, and crossing paths with a tornado up in WI. Anyhow, I'll jump in here....

Welding and reshaping the rectangular trunion slot, as well as shimming the linkage plate that rotates on it (see picture), will greatly improve the feel of the transmission. New ball joints will help, but IIRC, the QL linkage has this funky double-ended tie rod end on it that you won't likely find a heim joint replacement for. In addition, the QLs have a rather horrible (IMO) linkage...it is overly complex, and the ones I have had were still rather jerky after performing all of the above repairs.

My trunion plate has grooves worn in from pins, so I shimmed the springs tight to hold them in place. Did the neutral adjustment per the MattG's instructions in another thread. Put it all back together and it's light years better!! Eventually I'll have to properly reapair the trunion plate, but for now very happy with the results. :biggrin2.gif:
