Dad used to use ditching dynamite to clear ditches, waterways, mudholes, whatever. Wasn't no big deal to buy it 60 years ago

My Dad has mentioned drainage ditches in our area which were created by blasting. :Explode: More common was clearing tree stumps and well drillers freeing trapped equipment.:beerchug:

My BIL always had a case stored in the hammer mill shed,,,
I am positive he would find an excuse to clear some ditch, or remove a two foot oak stump when I visited,,

It was better than fireworks!! normally there was little noise, but, the ground would really shake,,,

We dynamited an oak stump that was so big, the AC HD10 could not push it,, even though it was completely dug out of the ground.
3 sticks, with 150 feet of wire, and I got to touch the wires to the car battery.
the explosion was so contained, we could have used only 15 feet of wire,,
nothing happened except a LOT of dirt fell off the stump.

After the charge was set off, the HD10 easily pushed the stump!!

Then,, he would take us kids out to a sunken barge that was in the James river.

He would toss in a weighted 1/2 stick of 20%,,,
then we would scoop out the fish for dinner that evening,,, :biggrin2:

We did that with m-80s tied to a rock in the neighbors pond when we were camping as teens. Gut the bluegill, pack them in a clay ball and throw them in around the fire. When the mud cracks the fish are done. Heard that can be done with chickens with the feathers on, never tried that.Don't like stinky feather pluckers. Mike:biggrin2:
