IH #2 value

Hello. I’m a newbie with a question. I have an older IH #2 tiller in excellent working condition that I’m trying to find a value for. I’ve seen gear boxes going from anywhere from $250-400 alone. It currently has a custom adapter plate to make it fit and function on a JD X300. https://youtu.be/pvB7--yNHVo Here’s a short video of it in action. Can anyone tell me what it might be worth?

Thanks

Gearboxes are worth about $125 and that's it. I don't know where you are seeing them so high, but I highly doubt many are sold anywhere near that price.
A #2 tiller is worth about $300-$400 gear box included. I've seen many sold for $300 or less.

Sounds like yours has a bad bearing somewhere. It should be quiet when it's running.

eBay is where I found them https://m.ebay.com/itm/IH-Cub-Cadet-...from=R40&rt=nc

That video was with a different gearbox that died. It has since been replaced. Thanks for the info.

Just because it's listed on ebay for a ridiculous price, does not mean it sells for that price. I've seen used items priced doube the cost of new. There's always a sucker out there ready to be taken advantage of.

Jon is spot on as usual, A fellow had a gear box for sale here seems like within a year and he had to beg someone to buy it for less than $100.
Kinda like Barrett /Jackson or Me cum farm auctions.
Somebody sees something sell for a big price and they figger anything remotely
like it is worth big $$
I always say, things is worth is what a buyer and seller agree upon in normal times.

I’m not necessarily going to sell it. You see that is my brother in the video. He passed away 5 years ago. The tiller along with all his lawn equipment, I purchased from his wife. I may considering selling if the right person came along and would restore it. Basically it’s just been sitting in my JD lawn cart for the last 5 years taking up space, I don’t really have a need for it.
