1650 vibrates at low idle
Hello all,
I picked up my first 1650 with the intent to attach my #2 tiller to it. It has a few issues, transmission fluid leak, fuel line leak, bad front tire, but my biggest concern is the very noticeable (almost tooth chipping) vibration at low idle. I understood that this model had rubber mounts vs direct block to engine mounting plate connection. I assumed this would dampen the vibration some. (Previous owner has rebuilt the motor twice in over 10 yrs. Second time, he got sidetracked during an oil change and did not tighten the drain bolt. It vibrated loose while mowing.) My 1811 and 782 idles really smooth compared to this one. I understand the difference between single vs twin cylinders. Even at full throttle it has a vibration, not as severe as at low idle but noticeably more that the twin cylinder tractors. Oh, I know, no pics = it never happened. I will get a tire on it and pull it out of the trailer later in the week. Anyway, all suggestions and recommendations are appreciated. Regards, OKcubfan |
Besides the issues it has.. do you think it could be a timing issue? Is it running rich?

Those big 16hp engines shake like crazy. I would check out the rubber mounts and check all the mounting hardware to make sure it's tight.

16 hp singles all vibrate , look at the rubber mounts , driveshaft rubber couplers , see if the drive shaft runs true or if it wobbles if it wobbles the bushings at the ends are probably bad . make sure all 4 bolts are in the mounting rails into the oil pan

Welcome to a 16hp single! They're shakers!

If the engine to cradle bolts are tight, and the rubber mounts on the cradle to frame are in good shape, then it should only shake the fillings out of your teeth.
That single piston is the size of a small block chevy piston, expect it to be a vibrator. A double breasted flathead opposed twin, is about a smooth an engine there is. Trying to compare the two is like comparing a a Harley to a Gold Wing. :bigthink: |
These guys know what there talking about, I am just a rookie.
