1977 cub 1650 with 3 blade 50” deck. Spindle bearings are one piece style and non rebuildable. I bought 3 new bearing assembly’s and installing but something is not right. I think previous owner had apart and lost something? On bottom side of deck does it washer, cup, blade, washer then nut? Or is there a spacer that is to go in there first? On the pulley side is there a spacer then pulley? When I put together everything jams up solid. Parts schematics and mowerowners manualdo not show anything useful. Pulling my hair out.

Don't know if these help. On mine on the bottom it goes cup, blade, washer, nut. On the top on mine it goes pulley, nut. No spacers. There are shoulders on the spindle, top and bottom, that the pulley and cup to bear against. They may not be protruding from the spindle housing (part # 903-0117) and spindle housing cap (part # 703-0115-0499) if there is crud built up inside. Make sure everything is cleaned out well and reassemble.

I can see in your picture that the shoulder is not protruding above the spindle housing cap. It should be by about 3/16". Also, it should go; nut, pulley, spindle housing cap, spindle housing, deck plate, deck shell, cup, blade, washer, nut.
Good luck.:beerchug: |

Yes I totally agree with all of you. That shoulder should stick out that’s why I thought there might be a spacer. I have no idea why it’s not. Inside the cups are clean and deck is clean. Im at a loss. When you install the 2 cups on the deck and on bearing should there be any up and down movement of the bearing inside the cups? Or are those cups supposed to sandwich and put pressure on the bearing so they say stationary and just the spindle shaft rotates?

It looks to me that you may have your parts out of order. Spindle housing cap and spindle housing should be sandwiched together. Nothing in between.

?
I’m not sure that is true about cups being worn out? If for some reason cups where worn inside by bearing seizing and spinning in cups yes that would wear cups and give you up and down play but you would still have the shoulder sticking out beyond the cup? Just my way of thinking?

Do all 3 look like that?? About the same measurement? |
I just replaced my bearings in a 44" deck and had to shim them inside the cups to get rid on the movement. The old bearings has spun inside the cups.
