2186 25amp fuse blows
Call me electrically challenged.
This mower has 404 hours on it. All the wires appear to be good, still wrapped in the harness. As your sitting on the seat facing forward, it's the 25amp to the left side of the panel. I traced the two wires from the fuse holder to the directly to the switch so I suspected a bad switch. I replaced the switch and the fuse and I only turned the key to the first position, I didn't want to introduce the starter into the mix. As soon as it hits the first position on the switch the fuse blows. I really have no idea what to check next. I was going to start unplugging the pto, removing the starter wires but decided to ask you guys first. Thanks for any help. oh, battery is good and pto clutch new last year. |
Check the wires going to the head lights. I bet you have a grounded wire there.

My 1862 was doing that and it turned out to be a broken headlight bulb grounding out.

I will do that. Thanks.

Also look for any possible wire shorted to ground/hot exhaust/chaffed .

Update....
Thanks guys! I looked closer at the wires going to the headlights and thought I spotted some insulation sliced. I had the tractor owner take a look since his eyes are 40 years younger than mine and we found where a wire or maybe two must have been rubbing against the edge of a piece of metal. He electrical taped it and he is now good to mow! I sold him this tractor 3 years ago and he lives just down the road and he graduated with my son so I help him out with it. Last year we replaced the pto clutch with one of the Extremes. Saved him a bundle there and he learned how to replace the clutch. It's really great that I can come on here and present my problem and get the help that I need. Just like having a good neighbor next door! Thanks again. |
