Gas cap gasket for 1450?
1 Attachment(s)
Hello! Anybody happen to have an off the shelf part # they know works for the fuel cap gasket of a 1450 (and presumably other QLs)? Before I try to make one or try hunting for a size that fits, I wasn't sure if someone already did the same thing. :)
I filled up the tractor than drove it up on my trailer and noticed it had splashed gas all over. Not sure if the original cap ever had a gasket, or if it did it likely disintegrated in the 40 years this thing has been used. Parts diagram shows no mention of a gasket for the fuel cap/gauge. |
There are 2 styles of gas caps, a small diameter one on the earlier models, and larger one on the later cubs.
a gasket can be made using sheet cork available @ auto parts or tractor supply and others. |
From the Parts Website Site....
IH-61635-C2 Cap, Fuel Tank | (Serial No. 560209 & below) IH-109037-C1 Cap, Fuel Tank | (Serial No. 560210 & above) :IH Trusted Hand: |
Thanks Roland, I didn't bother to look up the serial break because a lot of ppl
have changed to the later tank over the years, because the small opening is a pain to fill and a lot of screen funnels don't fit. If needed Eric, I can measure both necks for you so you know what you have.:beerchug: |
Maybe try an o ring.
BTW gas will come out of the breather hole on the cap and do as you said. |
Just as a side comment, I have replaced several gas gauges over the years for the 50 series and 82 series. They work good for a year or so, then the floats don't float anymore (which make the gauge that I wanted worthless). I have gone to the local hardware store and replaced the plastic looking floats with corks (that I had to fashion myself to work freely in the gauge supports). These are still working just fine.
