They are asking $1000. Does this seem like a fair price or too much? It looks like it has a creeper, rear lift, headlights, mower deck, ag tires.

If it runs good i would say $700 tops. It does have some nice options and it has the correct grille which is usually missing.

Ok, thanks. That's what I was thinking. Maybe I will make an offer.

The kind code for a 126 is 0039, make sure you check the serial number before you buy it. If the tag on the rearend doesn't have a 0039 kind code it will kill any collector value.

What do you mean by "kind code"? And if it doesn't have it, will that lower the value much?

On the serial number tag there is a U, the four numbers before the U is the kind code. The kind code tells you what model tractor it is, since the 126 is the third rarest model Cub that was made having the wrong kind code on the tag would ruin it's value to a collector. Basically, if its a 126 but someone changed the rearend for whatever reason and now the kind code is wrong then the value would be less.

So, if that code is wrong would that mean it's either not really a 126 or someone changed the transmission and didn't change the tag?

Correct. The tags are almost impossible to get off the rearend without destroying them so nobody changes them if they swap the rearend.

Thanks for telling me. If the code is wrong, what should it be worth?

That's hard to say. The value of a real 126 only matters to a true collector, the average person that's just looking for a tractor isn't going to care so having the wrong kind code on the tag wont help you talk down the seller on price. Whatever you do don't be running your mouth to the seller about how rare that model is, just casually look at the tag to confirm the 0039 kind code and start negotiating.
