IH Farmall Cast Iron Transaxle Production/MTD

Hi, Can anyone tell me the last model(s) of Cub Cadets to use the cast iron transaxle during the sale to MTD. I'm having trouble finding the cutoff point. I would guess that a few models continued to use the cast iron for a short time before the aluminum version was used. Any info is appreciated.

I have an MTD 782 with a cast iron rear, it's been a while since I checked but I think it is an 84.

There is no cut off serial number, or manufacture date. CCC simply depleted the old CI inventory and switched to the AL rear ends. It was during the production of the '82 series is all the info that I can tell you.

IH sold off Cub Cadet around 1980. If the tractors have a serial number of <699,999 it was IH built. Tractors with serial number 700,000> are CCC built. CCC used the IH product inventory until it was depleted. The Cast Iron rear ends were used from 700,000 to 719,999. Starting at 720,000> were the aluminum rear ends.

Dang it. I didn't look it up. I never remembered seeing a SN cut off for the aluminum rear, just that CCC depleted inventory of CI's and made the switch. But, I get the book out this morning, and there it is. Glad you were more diligent than I. :beerchug:

Thanks for all your help on this. Now I know what to look for while shopping for a real tractor.
