1200 starter

Guys, buddy text me a couple weeks back....he saved a 1200 with a creeper & good tin from an elderly neighbor, said I can have it if I want. He doesn't know the backstory on it, but the starter is missing.

Looking at the catalog, it appears there's both a 10 tooth and 13 tooth starter listed.

How do I find which starter I need? I'm assuming it would be matched up with a specific tooth count ring gear?

Hoping to pick it up this weekend. Thinking this could be my permanent tiller rig if I can get it together and tack on a spring assist.

Might have a 2182 arriving soon too....but it sounds pretty bad, maybe an organ donor for something else here.

Thanks all

Use the "spec" number and look it up. Only one available from Cubcadet.com. Try one of the sponsors above...may have both available.

Yeah, I saw Cub lists one, but CC Specialties has both. Just wondered if there was a definitive way of knowing which one I'll need. It's gonna need a bit of tlc so time shouldn't be an issue.

As I said...look up which stater was used by using the Kohler engine spec number.

Model K301AQS
Spec XXXXXXX From engine ID sticker
Serial XXXXXXX

----IF----- your 1200 has a K301AQS-47541 engine, then the correct starter would be 45-098-05.

Don't want to dampen yer enthusiasm,
but before I sprang for a starter I'd do some checking if this "free" jewel is worthy of a starter.
I'd not be buying a weddin' ring till I met the "lady"

A friend offered to set me up with a Mermaid once,
I didn't go for it,
that deal smelled "fishy" to me:biggrin2:

Understood, and was my plan, I just didn't know how to ID the correct starter for the tractor. The pics he sent, it did look pretty decent, even has the side panels with it. He thought it was saveable in any case; he's more of an antique tractor guy & knows I like the cubs so he thought he'd pass it on.
Still, gotta find out if the engine grenaded or not, that'll be the big one....bought my 86 with a busted rod; a little money and some of my time & its been a good chore rig around here.

Plus, the 1200 would be my 1st new Cub in 3 years, and my 1st Quietline, so I'm a little excited.
