$17 Chinese carb

Got this carb off eBay for under $17 and free shipping. Quality looks good but the real test will be when I put it on a tractor. I plan to put this on my 108 to replace the fixed jet walbro and will report back with how well it runs. With any luck it will be good and the 108 can go stretch it's legs at PA plow day. I will most likely switch out the plastic float before installation.

dvogtvpe did a write up on those Chinese carbs a couple years ago. Took a Kohler and the China carb apart and compared all the parts. Said there were minor difference between them, but for the most part they were the same. Said they work pretty good. I dunno. I haven't tried one. I did buy one for my 3 wheeler this winter and put it on (the right one for the Honda, not a Kohler carb :BlahBlah:) and I don't remember the last time it started that easy. I has happy!

shouldn't be any reason to switch the float . that's what the magnum engines all came with iirc.

I have them sitting here out of junk carbs so I'm just going to put them in to avoid any future issues.

Tim,

I have one on a 169 that runs perfect.. I did swap the float for brass just because I had one.. other than that no issues:beerchug:

Hmmmmm......:bigthink: This is certainly interesting!! What sweet price, too! Looking forward to seeing future posts/threads on this matter.

I bought one off ebay about 5 years ago now, back then they were around $50.
I had to re-clock the choke lever to match CC.
First issue to show up was the brass float soldered seam leaked. When I replaced the float with a surplus kohler float, the quality of construction was obvious. Hand soldering versus robotic.

I would also advise you to use non-ethanol gas in it.

I have purchased and installed 4 so far with no issues other than the choke lever orientation as mentioned. There is at least one Ebay vendor selling the same carb with both styles of choke lever shaft for a little more money. Either way it's a good deal. I did open mine up before install and check the float level adjustment. If I remember I had to tweak one just a little.

This carb has the correct choke setup.

They are on Amazon also same price point of around $15 to $20.

I can not see how they can sell for that unless the china government is subsidizing production as well as paying the shipping.
