1650 pto clutch rebuild
 

I was messing with my old 1650 to see why the electric clutch wasn't engaging. It had power, so I pulled it off and the wires going to the copper coil are broken. Is this repairable? I've seen used ones going for close to $200. I doubt that I will ever mow much at all with it, but would like to get it all in working condition.

To answer your question, it would be hard in that there can be a bunch of variables.

(A) Are you a good or decent solder type of person...??
(B) Do you have the necessary soldering equipement...??
(C) Is the area of the broken wire at the very beginning or the tail end of the wound coil...??

If so, you have a good chance to repair this.

IF....the wire break is in the middle of the Coil Winding, then it is time for a replacement PTO Coil.

both wires were broken. I can solder fairly well. If it's just a matter of soldering new ends on, I will give it a try at some point.

Not in a while but somewhere I remember seeing an ad for some guy that redoes the potting in the windings and repairs shorted windings.
price wasn't too bad for the service, either. If I remember right the guy was out of Wisconsin.

There is a used one up for bid that may end up at a decent price.

I purchased one last year that way for around $40.

As you mention you can solder , sure... repair it. There's no electrical difference in a good solder joint and the original wire that broke.

Make sure to clean clean clean the two broken ends, and use good rosin core solder, and you'll be good to go.

I will get it out one of these evenings and see what I can get done. I need to check for continuity first, then I will try to solder it. I definitely can't hurt anything.
