Skipper - the reassembly
 

Well, after solving the skip, the first order of business was to put the M18 back in the 782 frame. I took a few minutes to build a spreader bar for my shop hoist. Just putting a chain between the lift points on the Kohler always bent the lift brackets in towards the air cleaner. I like the way the spreader bar helps keep the motor more level on the hoist too.
The engine is bolted down and the driveshaft is hooked up. Tomorrow is wiring and the rest of the various brackets and tin work. I'll be glad to get this out of the shop.

The beast is finally out of the shop! I finished the reinstall and took the 782 for a test ride today. 63 degrees here so everything is melting in a hurry. The water depth where this picture was taken is the shallowest part of the pond that is now my driveway. Almost got one of those mountain lake reflection pictures!

Glad you didn't let it whip you!:beerchug::beerchug: Unfortunately I deal with this kind of stuff on a daily basis.. it seems that the quality on just about all the new parts has gone to heck.. stuff that I have been using and buying for 30 years from the same suppliers is now hit and miss.. makes a mechanic's job much harder than it used to be when you can't even depend on a new part!:beerchug:

Your right Jay, quality sure isn't what it used to be. A lot of mechanics my age tend to keep a few "known to be good" used parts around, like sensors and such, to use as a test when the new part doesn't act as it should. Too bad I didn't have a good used coil! Thankfully CubDieselFan (Greg) did.

I know what you mean about the parts stash.. I have my original go to parts that I don't let anybody else use!:beerchug:

I was just short of pulling the Mag 18 down in my Gravely and sending you a coil.. would've been glad to do it but Greg made it happen first!

Glad you got it fixed.. you going to buy a Kohler coil of another aftermarket? Or just keep Greg's coil?:biggrin2::biggrin2:
