Carburetor Dilemna, What do I have?

This is the thread for the 149 from Texas
http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ead.php?t=5038
I discovered I do not have the original carb mounted on the 149, but found a shoebox full of parts with...another carburetor possibly the original carb:HeadScratch:

The one currently mounted is a WALBRO, while the other one doesn't have any brand on it except some part numbers. I will take some pics and post, but here are the numbers attached to each carb:
WALBRO 47 053 97, then in another location 802284
OTHER ONE C275369, then A237771.
Can anyone help me determine if both are good carbs, and which one should I rebuild.

Thanks again
J Rob

On the "other" carburetor, open the choke, inside the carburetor, just above the choke, on the angle of the venturi, should be a little number, 26. That would be the Kohler carb, which is the correct carb, if I am correct. Maybe someone else can use the numbers you gave to determine what carb it is. I don't yet have access to those resources

YUP..... the other Carb is a Kohler (Carter).

A 149 should have a #30 carb. As was mentioned, it's marked in the venturi.

I am not a fan of Walbro carbs....I would rebuild the Carter/Kohler carb. Instructions are on the 'How-to' page of my website if you need them ;)

I agree with Matt. I'd put the Kohler carb back on. I've never heard any good about the Walbro carbs.

It's a #30 Carb

OK, so there is a 30 inside the throat of the venturi. Now, with all the bad talk about the WALBRO, i might be hard pressed trying to sell that on this website. ha ha.

Last question on this topic, Will the local TSC be able to get the carb kit for that #30 or should I go somewhere else? Where do I go to look up which carb kit I need is really what I am getting at.

Again, thanks ya'll have pulled through once again. Attached is a shot of the throat with the 30 stamp. You can also see that the choke plate (not sure actual name) is warped slightly probably from the gum buildup stopping it from fully choking. Is this replaceable too? I haven't cleaned this carb yet, but will take it apart tonight.

You can get the kit at your local Cub Cadet dealer, or you can try our sponsors at the top of each page. :beerchug:

ACecil, no luck here in Clovis with a CC dealer. I did find a Case/IH dealer here though, they carry all of the HYTran and other fluids, and a Motions Industries for all the belts.. closest thing here is a TSC and NAPA unfortunately. I guess I'll be doing some online shopping.

Thanks for your help with the carb issue. Is there any reason why someone would replace the old carb, and put the WALBRO on years ago, instead of just rebuilding the Carter/Kohler #30?

#30 Carb Kit

J Rob, I bet you can cross reference the carb kit at your napa store...
I think its Kohler part #25 757 01-S or 02-S.I just rebuilt my #26 carter using Matt's excellent how to page...make sure to look the float over real close, mine looked good but filled up with water as I was cleaning it.

Matt G. 06-25-2010 08:40 PM

I would just replace the float while you are in there; that way, you won't have to worry about it.

You can get Kohler parts at any small engine place that deals with Kohler engines.
