Refurbishing a Sims Cab for a 3000 Series
1 Attachment(s)
I just picked up a Sims cab and a snow blower for my 3225. The cab is in decent shape but I'd like to fix a few things before assembling and installing it. The prices on the Cabdepot website are insane. Any advise on other sources for parts?
On one of the exterior chrome door handles, the handle itself broke in half, the previous owner put a piece of metal behind the two pieces and screwed it together (door on right in the pic, but not easy to see). Cabdepot wants $135 for a new handle. I found another website that several handles that looked the same ($20-$30), but not sure which one is correct. All the seals that mate the cab to the tractor need replaced, as well as the seals around the door frames. The seals around all of the windows are good, I'm only referring to the seals around the perimeter of the cab and doors. If I'm looking at the correct seal, Cabdepot price is $7 a foot. There aren't any swing stops on the doors, and I don't think they were ever put on the cab since new. There's no holes on the corner posts or doors where they would have been mounted, and the hinges on one side of the cab are bent back a bit from the door being overextended. The installation instructions are vague on how and where they're installed. If I could find a picture of them on a cab that would be a big help. I tried googling it but couldn't find anything. The cab has an interior light and a yellow strobe light on top. I'd like to replace the interior light with an LED light and also put a curved LED light bar on it. Will the tractor be able to handle an LED light bar? The wiper motor works fine (PN WWF12C19-1010) but the swing is short, maybe 45-65 degrees. It has an on/off slide switch on it and doesn't park, it just stops when the switch is turned off. Does anyone know if the swing is adjustable? Should the motor park when it's shut off? That's what I've come across so far but I'm sure there will be more when I start assembling and installing it. Thanks for the help guys. EDIT - sorry for the sideways picture, it's not that way on my PC. I guess I should have resized it before uploading. |
No one has experience with Sims cabs?

Well, it is the weekend. Give us a little time and somebody will probably come by and help.
I am not sure what your weather strips look like, but JC Whitney used to carry a lot of stuff that was used on older cars and trucks. Usually tractor equipment used common things on the part they were making. Search for universal weatherstrip or something like that. I would be willing to bet you can find it. Maybe a camper supply place as well. Randy |
An excellent place for all kinds of rubber seals, weatherstrips etc. is a company called Steele Rubber products. Here's a link to their website --- https://www.steelerubber.com/ Click on universal products and you will be given a billboard of different types of weatherstrip to choose from.
As for your question on LED lighting and can your tractor handle them, the main reason LED is so popular beside brightness and longevity, is that the LED lighting takes about 1/10 the current (amperage) than that of comparable incandescent bulbs. You will actually be using less power. The wiper motor probably does not have a park function if it is just and on/off switch. The wiper arc is what it is, no adjustment. As for your door handle, if it is a simple two screw mount with a 3/8" square shaft passing through the door to operate the mechanism inside, I would search universal turn down door handle on Ebay and match something up. Those types of handles are used on all kinds of truck bodies, campers, screen doors, etc. You just need to match the width between the mounting screws. Hope this helps a little. Keep posting pics of your progress! |
