Cub Cadet 182

While visiting a friend today who has a few vintage big rigs, I spotted an unusual Cub in his pole barn. A model 182 gear drive 8hp. It's in great shape, tires, paint, everything is there. I was told his son ran it for a while mowing yards as a teenager and it has sat now for 3-4 years. When looking in the "bible" 50 Years of Cub Cadet, I found it odd there is no mention of this little lawn tractor or is hydro relative the 282. I did find some info at TractorData.com but that was just basic stuff. So is this little guy worth anything? Or is it considered a black sheep of the IH family? And no I didn't get a picture (forgot my phone).

It is a basic little lawn tractor...cute but not worth very much, at least in my area. Maybe $100 if it runs and it works as designed.:beerchug:

Thanks Beth. Any idea why it isn't mentioned in "50 Years of Cub"? I have no use for it myself, but if it was a rare one I'd stay interested.

Those series tractors are considered Lawn Tractors, not Garden Tractors.. I am guessing that is why they aren't covered in Hank Will's book?:bigthink: I don't know much about them.. I think they were decent little grass cutters but I know they are much lighter built than the regular Garden Tractor series.

I am curious if IH built them or if they were contracted out?:bigthink:

I do not believe these are rare or collectible. That being said, the little Cadet riding mowers seem to have a cult following recently. If you like it and the price is agreeable, think of it as another toy in your red collection. :beerchug:

From what I've read on the internet, the 182 is IH built, but that's internet info, not gospel.
Thanks for posting the link Beth. Lyle has a heck of a collection there doesn't he!
The one I saw today nearly rivals the one shown in the Youtube link as far as condition. I can see where this is headed if I'm not careful. I'll end up trying to collect all the 82 series!

If you can get it cheap then go for it, they're pretty cool to tinker with.

Especially for the IH Cub Cadet collector. My Cadet 111 was an aggressive performer. Pretty well built I might add, compare to today’s riders. This is why I also like and enjoy Ken Updike’s book. I was kind of disappointed with 50 years because of lack of info of the Cadet line up.

To my understanding, its just the tiny model of the 82 series. I think the 382 were a lot more popular than the 1 and 2 models. If you can find an online 82 series brochure, you should see it listed. If it is all there and the hood is not broken up (fiberglass I think--check the hinge points and latch) I would say $100 easy, maybe $300 if it runs decent and only needs a cosmetic makeover. The guy that wants it is going to be a diehard Cadet or IH collector. We just sold dads 382 hydro last weekend to a fellow that wants a whole set of red 82's. He farmed with IH all his life until health reasons forced retirement on him. He drove 2 hrs one way to get the 382.
