127 Suddenly using huge amount of gas
 

A new issue has popped up. Filling the gas tank twice it has run out of gas in about 15 minutes of cutting grass. There seem to be no leaking, no gas smell and the exhaust is not dark. There appears to be nothing suggesting flooding.
A second issue has been going on some time: If I dont let it idle down for about 30 seconds when done it will offer up a huge backfire when I turn off the unit with out letting it idle at slow rpm for that short time.

Not sure where your gas could be going, a tank of gas in 15 minutes should flood the engine out to the point it won't even run. Letting the engine idle to cool down to avoid a back fire is standard procedure on most cubs, if you shut it off hot the engine pumps raw air/fuel into the hot muffler where it is ignited.

What happens if you fill the tank and just let the tractor sit?

Maybe I am crazy and didn't fill the tank as much as I thought. I will check back in a couple of weeks. You are right, if it not leaking out when not running and it it is not going into the carb while running I must be crazy.

You should ALWAYS let the engine cool down before shutting it down. That procedure should be followed with just about any internal combustion engine.

Well.... yeah. But that's a little ridiculous for a K series, LOL.

I knew that the top fuel stuff pumped the cylinders so full they run on the verge of hydraulic lock. With that much fuel, it's actually pretty impressive they don't hydraulic lock. Coarse, maybe sometimes they do. :bigthink:
