Well I went and took the hydro that I will be using in my 1872 apart. I am wanting to replace the seals in it before I get the tractor together. Plus I was really curious as to how they work. Well they are pretty simple once you can see everything. But I have a problem. The output shaft has some kind of snap ring holding it and the bearing in from the outer side. The side that goes into the reduction housing. Can someone tell me how to get it out ? I think I understand how it is, just don't know how or what tool to use to get out. Here are a couple pictures one of the snap ring and one of all the internals. I need to add that the 2 service manuals I looked at said there should be some screws holding the swash plate and this shaft in. Mine obviously does not have the screws. So I am unsure but I think if I can get this snap ring out, then the bearing and shaft will come out.

I did some comparing on parts tree's web site. It seems that there is a difference in the case on the say 682,782 compared to the 1211 and 1811.
The 6-7-982 style has some screws holding the swash plate and shaft in. The 1211 and 1811 style does not. the swash plate is machined into the case. So can someone give me the link to the service manual for 1211 and 1811 cubs

Looking at the pix, it appears that that snap ring is part of the roller bearing,
and my experance with that type of bearing is that also.
I would think with the absence of a shoulder on the pinion shaft/gear, it should slide inward allowing removal.
I don't think you would gain anything removing the internal snap ring other than to allow removal of the rollers, although I am not familar with it.
If the shaft is shouldered, then you would need to pick out the snap ring and remove the rollers.

That is what I was thinking. The shaft is shouldered on the inside. I am pretty sure it has to come out through the bearing side. That is why I would like the link to the service manual for the 1211 and 1811.

The rollers on the bearing ride on the shaft. There is a little play, as I can move the shaft in and out about an inch. I was concerned that the bearing might be worn so I was going to replace it. I have a bearing supply house in my town, I might just take the whole thing down there and see if they think it is worn or if is just the way it is. I see the replacement through cub is near $80. I am beginning to think the bearing goes on the shaft then the bearing is pressed into the case.

On a side note. I am glad I tore into this. I was very surprised at the amount of grim ( gray metal dust like sludge ) that I found inside the pump. It is primarily on the case walls not the drive assembly's. I would recommend anyone doing a full rebuild/restore to do this. It is not nearly as complicated as I thought it was going to be.

Well I took a chance and gave the shaft a couple taps with brass hammer. The bearing started moving, so I kept going. The bearing is pressed into the housing on this style pump. So sometime this week I will be getting some new seals and maybe some new bearings.

If anyone would like some more pictures of all the internals or any parts of the pump while I have it apart, just let me know. I will post them here.

I sure would like to see more pictures, I have one that has a small leak that i would like to replace the gasket sometime. Not exactly like yours but similar.
So any pictures of what i would be getting into would be greatly appreciated :biggrin2.gif:

Well I got a chance to get out to the workshop today. So I took some pictures. I tried to get take them in the order of disassembly. The main shafts are loose so, I just kind of held the parts in place. They should give the general idea though.
