First cut with new Cub

What a pleasure it was. Saw my old 2135 off and began use of my new XT1 46". I still firmly believe that I would have spent way too much on the old one to get it into the kind of operational shape the new one is in (plus there was some rust in the deck that amounted for only a matter of time before it was useless).

Before my first use, I removed the deck (very easy on the new one, only needed to remove one bracket with a ratchet and 4 cotter pins with needle nose pliers) and removed the blades it came with. I coated the underside and edges with 2 coats of POR-15 as a preventative measure based on my previous experience with it in other applications as well as others reviews of the product in its ability to thwart rust. Then I installed the mulcher kit I got with the mower, and replaced the deck.

It's only been one use, but I just couldn't be happier. I hear there are complaints with the tufftorq k46, but my lawn is .28 acres (only takes about 30 mins with this badboy) and is very flat. So I shouldn't see a quick death. However, in the event it does happen, I found a fantastic writeup, with pics (all of which I have since archived into a word document for my own reference, and for anyone else who may be in need) which shows how to rebuild what tends to fail in this transmission, accounting for a mere <$200 investment. As I've done engine and transmission rebuild on cars, this should be a piece of cake should the time come.

So I'm thrilled with this new piece of equipment. No more embarrassingly hard starts (old tractor had 1600+ hours), easy responsive steering, and I can still easily mow in reverse. Love it!

What engine did you have on that old 2135? I have a 2140 w/ a Cummins Onan 14 hp with just under 1,300 hours and was wondering how much life it had left in her.

If he cut his grass 1 time every week for a 30 minutes period his total seat time is about 2hr, if my estimations are good he still running on the break-in oil so it's a bit early for a review but who knows, maybe he like it so much he mow the neighbors grass the rest of those week and already log 25hr! :biggrin2:
