Would like to hear from any XT3 owners

My 14yr. old Cub series 2000 shaft drive 2166 is beginning to require a lot of attention lately and I am in the market to purchase a new GT. I like the shaft drive and have looked online at the entry level XT3 GS w/42" deck (dealers here do not stock anything but XT2's) and have read a few reviews but would really like to hear first hand from any owners on both the positives & negatives of the XT3 series. I had looked at a John Deere X570 @ $1600.00 more only because it had a sleeve hitch available but not thrilled about the belt drive and triple blade deck. Cub has now released a sleeve hitch for their XT3 so a small garden is now doable. The Cub really fits our budget better but I would have to order it sight unseen so any advice or input given on the Cub XT3 series from an actual owner is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rudy.:Thanks:

There are a few members here that have XT3's. I will throw caution to the wind and provide their OCC names. 17xt3 and pat tm are two of them. I hope by giving you this info, feathers are NOT ruffled. I contacted them each through PM to discuss the new cubs. At the time, both rated the XT3's with HIGH marks. Hope this helps.

I'm not an owner of one. Like Steve said, there are a few members with them.... very few. Some like them....
I can't find it now, but there was a guy a few weeks back who had a lot of trouble with his brand new tractor but I don't recall what model he bought. My opinion is your 2166 is probably a better machine.

Are you talking about this thread on an XT1?

I don't know why but I had a feeling it was :biggrin2: For what it's worth, he's happy with the cut, looks, plenty of power, turning radius etc. The only issue he has is with the engine/service center that "took care" of his issue. I believe it's a Kohler 7000 Series vertical shaft engine, for what it's worth.

OP I'm sure you could PM him if you had any questions he could help out with :beerchug:

Thanks for responding, yeah I really like my old 2166 but it's getting to the point that the more I have to put into would be well on my way into a new machine. I have patched & painted the deck twice in 14 years & a new shell is over $400.00. Now the motor is needing some attention, hopefully it's not too major. I read the post with the guy having trouble and unless I am mistaken he had bought a used XT1. Cub lists some of those with the Kohler Courage engine which seam to be trouble prone from the get go. I would hope the XT3 Kohler Command Horizontal like in mine would be light years ahead in durability, but I could be wrong. Anyway thanks again for responding.

He had bought a used XT1 yes but it had 4 hours on it when he bought it so I don't know how used I would consider that :biggrin2:

It also appears all the models of XT3's use the Command Pro Horizontall shaft engine in either 22.5hp or 25hp trim. :beerchug:
