"fake" chainsaws
 

Just curious as to if the "fake" Stihl chainsaws are showing up in your area. We've been seeing them on CL here for a couple years. They are always new, have the same model #, but there are no Stihl decals on the engine, just a Stihl bar. Some of these are absolute monsters with 3-4 foot bars. A friend of mine was working as a mechanic a few years back for a Deere lawn and garden dealer that also sold Stihl. At one of the service schools, this was brought up, although I believe the phony saw in question was a Husqvarna that fooled the dealer into thinking it was real.

I don't have plans to buy one (I've got a couple 40 year old Stihls that do just fine). This blatant copying and dumping into other markets on unsuspecting buyers is quite irritating to me, maybe because I have spent almost 30 years in manufacturing. All sorts of reviews/complaints/comparisons online about the fake Husky and Stihl products. Just tossing this out for conversation.:BlahBlah::BlahBlah:

John fake Mutitoyo and Starrett precision tools are all over EB, if the price is too good to be true it's because it isn't true! No free lunch sorry folks!

yeah its basically just guys building them from totally chinese parts.. hutzl or (farmertec) is a big name in the aftermarket parts world for saws, and super cheap crap... i would recommend meteor pistons caber rings and easysaw or meteor cylinders as well as an alternative to oem, and not chinese crap...made in italy...ive done a few...tried a chinese cylinder once........once.....no bueno....

You have to look hard at the "Gibson" Les Paul's these days also....

Just buy it from the local dealer and no problems. :biggrin2:

I have a fake Rolex and it keeps genuine time , my wife also has one and a Rolex dealer was adamant it was genuine

I am a collector of old LP's. I think I have around 30, and their all old but 2. I saw a knock off and had to take the pick ups out to make sure what I was looking at. Here's a 83.
