I ran across this 129 this morning on craigslist for 50 bucks. I couldn't pass it up as it was only about twenty miles away. Haven't had time to go over it much yet.
The engine is not seized up, actually it turns too free. I took the spark plug out to see if the piston was moving and it was so I'm thinking a stuck valve, what do you say? It seems to be all original and all there.

Great deal, congrats!

can't even find engineless rollers for that around here.... I just paid $40 for one with no engine, no hydro and no steering gear.... but the rest was there.
I figured what is left was worth that in parts especially since I have recently bought just a couple of pieces of what's still left, elsewhere for my 129 and paid more than that....
there's a 129 about 35 miles away that has been sitting out by the road for a few years for sale now, very rough but complete with an engine that isn't seized or blown up, been sitting a few years at least tht I know of, I have been by and left notes 4x this spring, a couple times making "special trips" to try and catch the people around there and still have had no contact about it....

Made a little progress.

I wanted to get the engine running before I went any further just to make sure it wasn't crap. I pored a little oil down the spark plug hole the other day, it has compression now. Don't know how long it's been setting outside, the throttle shaft was froze in the carb., the choke cable is frozen, and the hydro linkage is frozen.

Took the carb. off and got the shaft freed up and took apart and cleaned everything with carb. cleaner. It wasn't too bad inside. Put carb. back on.

Now check for spark. Put the battery out of my 982 in it to see if the S/G works with the key, surprisingly it does. Checked for spark with spark tester, no spark.
Checked point gap, it was about .010 which is good I believe. Now I'm thinking bad coil or condenser.

Now is when I made a mistake, I did what Jonathan and others said not to do- "don't go throwing parts at it till you've done all the tests". Well, I went and got a new coil and condenser, put them on and still no spark. (I'll take them back to TSC)
Then I thought of a test I should've done in the first place. A test light hooked to the wire going to the points. Sure enough the points weren't making a connection, they were closing but no continuity.

I filed the points and whala, I've got spark. So I rigged up a temporary gas supply and gave it a try. After a little bit it fired up. It doesn't smoke and runs pretty well. I know it needs new points, it idled good but when I increased the throttle it ran rough, I could see the points sparking pretty good.
Now that I know it runs I can go ahead and work on the other issues. It looks like it has the normal hydro leaks and maybe axle seals.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks everybody for the comments, I'll keep you posted.
