580 Cub Cadet Brake Pedal /Axle Seal ???

I have a couple of questions I am hoping somebody out there can help me with. First the brake/clutch pedal on my 580 doesn't have enough travel to completely disengage the idler pulley. It's difficult to shift without grinding the gears. I can't see any adjustment on this, only a large spring which appears to be OK. It hasn't been over extended or broken. The pedal is only a few inches above the foot rest when the transaxle is engaged. Secondly, there is an oil leak from the right axle shaft. I have a new seal am not sure how to go about installing it. I think I should remove the right axle housing from the transaxle housing but am reluctant to do this in the event several parts/pieces come tumbling out and leave me wondering where they go. I need a diagram or some expert assistance. Thanks for the help.

Well, I'd like to say that I can help, but I can't really do that. I'm almost positive that nothing should go tumbeling out. I'm assuming that you'd have to remove the rear cover, to get to the diff, to remove the E ring. Then the axle will just slide out. Then just remove the seal, and put a new one.

Now, Purly because I dont' know what a 580 is, I'm kinda new to cubs. But I just pulled a axle tube on my 1772, but that has a hydrostatic transmission. So honestly, I'm not sure if your 580 will have the same pieces as my diff, just instead of the hydro, you'd have the gears. I['m not sure, so don't take my word. I'd listen to the experts before. :P

but afaik, you'd be fine

Because think about it, it's just a bunch of gears, and shouldn't they all the secured. I think you'd be fine

Thanks and WELCOME You cubadict

I am not familiar with the 580. Is it like the 582 special, with a belt drive peerless transmission ?

You can look here. Just type in CUB CADET, then the 580, and it will bring up all the diagrams for you're tractor.

I believe that a 580 is a CCC cub that was produced during the same time that the 680 was built. I think the 580 was a stripped version of the 680 that had manual instead of hydro

Now see, that's exactly comes up under the Cub Cadet web site, parts look up.

But then there's another one. That I think is his

If you go there
Then you'll see the

Don't know your part #?
If you don't know your Cub Cadet part number, but do know your model number, search for parts by product model.

Product Model # :
Put in 580
it'll open a new window. and then click the first one. the 2nd is the one that he posted.

I do believe that the 1st is your tractor though

Just scroll down on the page that willl pop up, and click the appropriate category

From the books i've got. It seems to be a 16 hp B&S 4 speed w/ mechanical lift

Don't know if that's right though

Thanks

Remove the wheel hubs and replace the seal without removing the axle.

Or-

You could get your hands on a standard IH tranny and get rid of that POS peerless you have on there now.

580 CC axle seal

OK, I found a diagram at Partstree. Doesn't look too difficult. Thanks for the help and the warm welcome.
