Mower deck paint
Good afternoon-
Can anyone advise how much paint cub cadet white paint I will need to purchase in order to paint my 50a mower deck? I have a buddy of mine who is gonna blast it and paint it for me. Also, where is the best place to obtain this? I am not looking for rattle can paint. Thanks! |
IH 935 White.

It's depends what is being sprayed underneath the paint, if you're going to use white primer or epoxy then you can probably get by with a quart, if the primer or epoxy is going to be gray you might need a bit more. You can buy the Case/IH irongard 935 white at multiple places on the net, I get mine from Messicks. If your going to buy two quarts then you're not far away on price to just buy a whole gallon and have it on hand for future projects, just make sure you put the lid on tight when your done or it will start to harden in the can. For hardener you can either use the stuff they sell or Shopline jh6002 which can be purchased anywhere that sells PPG paint.

I am applying a rust inhibitor - Agriguard- on the whole deck first(after sandblasting). It's a aluminum / silver color. Then I would put the white topper on it.

Use epoxy primer paint. You don't need rust inhibitor.

Epoxy primer is by far the best thing to spray over raw metal...usually they have a recoat time or you have to scuff, but most of us do that anyways...do any mud or filler OVER it also....one of the best things to come along in the paint and coating world in the last 30yrs....
My personal beleif is raw metal, epoxy primer, put some light scratch in it, mud work, block out reasonably close, recoat with epoxy primer, then switch h to a high build and really get her nice...spray, sand, spray, sand etc...then color and so on.... Now this is just a deck so steps can be skipped, but that's how I approach most bodywork |
I wish I would have known that prior to buying the AgriGuard.:bash2: I know next to nothing about paints so forgive the question - what exactly is epoxy primer that makes it better?
|
IMO Case IH primer is good....and even if you buy Case IH rattle can and sorta have a half clue on how to spray it it'll look good, especially for a mower deck if you plan to use it.

epoxy primer is a 2 part primer...it has to have a catalyst to get hard, like epoxy....it has superior bonding capabilities which allow it to seal metal exceptionally well...and it is STRONG,and very chip resisitant... sometimes called 2k primer...
