Who knows what about a 1610?

I got a call today asking if I would want it, supposed to be in rough shape, plus a supposed dying hydro but a great engine and deck. What engine would be in there? Horizontal or vertical shaft? If vertical shaft I will probably turn it down. If horizontal, I may get it for the engine on a worst case scenario.

Looks like an LT with a vertical shaft, I'd leave it to die.

ok thanks.... I have a GT of another brand that I was hoping I could use the engine for, but it's gotta be a horizontal... the guy who called me says "the deck looks the same as this other one you got sittin here"... if it has another 392 deck, I have another front roller bracket with deck hangers sitting here then I'd have 2 to swap over and make 44c's out of.. still gotta get the 1st 392 that I bough,t to see what all else I gotta swap over to make a 44c....
I had asked about that a while back on here....
but this LT is 2x the price of that other deck that I bought.

I am starting to see a few 44a's and c's starting to pop up within 1-1/2-2 hours of me that don't need any "conversion" but IDK what any of them need as far as an overhaul by the CL listings either at this point... I could use 1 more 44 or 50" deck. (I know, rambling and going away from original point of thread, sorry)

yeah, vertical shaft engine... figures/ I can find all of them I want, dirt cheap/ why are horiz shaft engines of any given HP so much harder to find and cost a mint when you do, running or not....

Not sure you can use any of the parts but if it were free.........?

I converted a LT deck off a 1610 into a 44c a couple years ago. It was actually pretty easy. I just cut off the top plate that the front hangers go on off the front of the old 44c, welded that onto the the top of of the LT roller mount. You will have to cut off the rear mounting tabs for the LT deck to get the rear mount brackets for the 44c to bolt up. After that, you can just swap everything over. I guess I don't really know if it is still going or not, I did the swap for my old shop teacher at school, and she left after that year:bigthink:

Yup Ben that is what I am figuring on doing to this other 392 deck that I have.

did you have to swap out the outer spindle pulleys too?

It's not... but I have that deck that I gotta go and get from this guy anyways, and this mower comes with another for double what I paid his cousin for the 1st deck.... which would then give me a deck for each of my machines....
I am starting to see a few decks pop up that are closer that will fit as they are, without any sort of "converting", and asking prices are the same as what the guy wants for the whole 1610.... but since I gotta go there "anyway, :bigthink: just have to see it to decide whether it might be worth "something".... to haul it home along with the ride while there. That's next week's project to head out there and retrieve what I already have sitting there that's previously been paid for.... at least 1 day of the weekend anyways.

I just swapped over the all the spindles with pulleys from the old 44c. I used the idler and spindle mounting plate from the old 44c as well. I'm not sure if the outer spindle pulleys would work or not. The center pulley would be different for sure, the belt drive was entirely different on the LT deck.
