1450 Hydro issue

The 1450 and tiller I brought home does have some issues with the hydro unit. One of the valves is leaking and the hand control won't budge. The brake pedal moves up and down freely without any type of pressure and falls to the foot rest. I've taken off the tiller to check fluid levels and cleaning. What would cause the hand control to be stuck?

Linkage rusted stuck.......

My 169 had sat for a couple decades and the friction disc had rusted to the parts around it. I pulled those apart and put it back together after oiling the other joints in the linkage and it's great now. I have to keep it a little tighter than I'd like so the control doesn't vibrate forward and run away, but it works pretty well now.

I want to say I've heard that you shouldn't get oil or grease on that friction disc; does anyone know if that's true?

If the brake pedal falls and stays down the return spring is broken and missing and also did you try to move the hand control with the brake pedal up? if the brake pedal is down the hand control will not move as pushing the brake returns the hydro to neutral. Just something to check if you haven't. Also possible as Jon stated that the linkage is rusted fast.

Farmall Fred........You called it. The return spring is missing. I thought of that while at work today. Raised up the pedal and the hand control works as it should. Now its "spring" finding time.

A 169... I'm jealous. I have a 129, next on the list to revive after the 1200 that I am neck deep into.....

My neighbor asked me to haul it to the scrapyard. It has several implements with it, and I figured someone out there might be able to fix it up and use it, and that person ended up being me after I found an old friend to help me out with it. It's sure a beast of a machine, though I probably rarely if ever use those last few hp on top. I'd like to get a gear drive Cub to go with it, but they're few and far between out here in Utah. And I probably ought to get the one I have in better shape first, she's a little battle-worn...

put that one with my 129, and they "average out" working perfect... my 129 is way-extremely sloppy, when I did get it running it was so sloppy that I couldn't get the linkage to move far enough to get reverse gear.....
