1282

What's a complete 1282 with a decent mowing deck going for if it does not run and the owner has never heard it run? Friend of mine has found one and figures its worth $3-500 if it will crank up and mow grass, maybe $200 if it doesn't run. He's a mechanic so he knows what the potential problems could be, He's just wondering if this model is highly sought after by collectors---in other words inflated price.
I think I have ran across one of these before but can't say for sure, just not really a common model around here.

if its in decent shape but non running i'd say $200 - $300 tops.

It may just be one of the last IH badged Cubs. 1985
Check the numbers, might be worth a look see.
Same unit s the CCC model 680 w/red paint and IH badge
IH machine code 0587 or 0603
(Info from Oscar Will's 50 years of Cub Cadet}
Should have an AQS301 12 HP engine

1282 is NOT an IH built tractor. Red: yes, IH badge: yes.... built by CCC: yes.

John the numbers you stated are nuts on. $200 not running, $500 to I'd say $750 in excellent shape.

Thanks guys. I haven't seen pics, but he said it looked reasonable and is red--He was thinking an IH machine. I think he may pass on it--guy wanted $350 for it. He's a mechanic and owns some Cadets and a few small IH tractors, so he knows what a can of worms this could be. He was just wondering if it had an inflated price such as 982's. The worst part is its over an hour away so its not like he can easily check it out. He did mention if he goes to look at it he'd take a battery, fuel, maybe an auxiliary tank and fuel line to see if he can get it cranked.

He must not want it too bad. If it's in good shape and not running, a $350 asking price isn't bad. It just has a K series Kohler in it. Not too much to go wrong or make that particular machine a veritable "bag of worms".

982s are worth every penny of the extra $1000 they get. :biggrin2:

Come on, you know how it goes---the battery is weak, carb won't quit leaking, rag joints are bad, dang it all the tie rod ends are bad, why isn't it charging, compression release acting flaky, needs new belts and idler pulleys. gauge wheels---we've all been there. In the end you could have bought one running and mowing for less. Like I told him, I sold dad's 129 back in the spring ready to go and mowing for $500. He was/is on the fence about buying it and if he got it was thinking about getting it running and flipping it in the spring (slimmer chance of keeping it).

All I can say is I like mine! I'm glad folks pay up a bit for them as it helps justifying making repairs.

As a "flipper" it's too high. As a "keeper" it's about right.
About.... with those issues, $200 would be better.
