Power Lines Proximity to Home

2 Attachment(s)
Anyone grow up, know people who grew up or have experience with Medium voltage Power Lines? We were looking at a house that fits our budget and pretty much has everything we want. The only downside is that about a block over ( 400 feet ) there is a Medium voltage power lines that run through the town and into the next county. My concern is the health side of it IE; cancer. There seems to be some inconclusive evidence pointing in both directions. Anyone have experience with them? I included a Google street view image of the exact lines. Thanks The image is pretty poor, but the only thing I can say that they are not the Big Boy interstate High Tension wires.

All I am going to say is why buy into something that your leery of ?
You will have peace of mind if you do not.
And you won't have to worry about resale value because of buyers in the same frame of mind as you.

i don't know that i'd worry about it, 400ft is a pretty good ways so its not like you'd be living under them. just about everything in the world we live in can give you cancer.

Yeah, I understand that, and I said that to myself. My thing is, other buyers are definitly thinking the same thing. The property is huge, for my area, and backs up to State Land so you know that nothing will be built there. I would just hate to move on to something else, because I was mislead.

I think one would be more concerned with the RF Energy waves you get when using your Cell Phone. :bigthink:

I work for one of the largest power utility companies in NY state. Our lineman work on these lines daily at hands on distances while energized and a good share of them have over 30 years in the job with no ill effects. There was at one time, discussion about being in the near proximity of the magnetic field created by the current passing through the lines. To my knowledge it was proven that we are constantly being exposed to this from many sources, such as the wiring in our homes, or being near any electric device such as a toaster, television, or power tool. You are wise to be protective of yours and your family's health, but I don't see this as an issue in my opinion.

I myself would be more concerned with what we eat out of a grocery store, or getting cancer from all the crap that's sprayed on fields than this... But that's just me.:bigthink:

Well this is where I was getting it I guess. I know guys that work on the power lines all day long and have done so for many years. I was more concerned about the EM fields radiating off of those lines.
