Model 100 worth?
Hello all.
I found this on ebay. It is not terribly far from me and want to know if it is worth the buy it now price of $825, or make an offer. What might be a decent offer. A model 100 with a mower deck and a CW-36 snow thrower. Overall, the pictures look clean. The thrower is a bit grungy, but it will be a worker and not a beauty queen. The listing says that he had it running in the last couple of weeks and it ran out of gas and now will not start. IMO, I think the carb simply needs a good cleaning, or, the gaskets need replacing. I don't know how to transfer an ebay listing here or else I would. I'll keep trying. Your advice and comments would be appreciated. Thanks Mike |

If it sells at the Buy it Now price, ebay will take 10% ($82.50). So, I'd offer $700 and see what happens. |

Thanks for putting the link up. I've spent the last hour trying to find or figure out how. Mike |

I see that you have a CC 100. From reading a lot of the different posts here, I have deciphered that this unit is an Original with a 10 hp engine. It should also be a Kohler. Correct? Is the CW-36 thrower a correct thrower for this model? Is there anything I should be especially watchful for? The listing location is only an hour or so drive for me, so I plan on going there and physically looking at it. I will have cash in hand so that I am prepared to make a deal if possible. I currently have a model 95 in the restoration process. I do not want another "project". I would prefer a solid working piece of equipment right from the get go. A carb cleaning is not a major thing. I am more concerned about having to look for and deal with anything major. Thanks for the input. Mike |
The CW36 should work fine on the 100, the only thing I've noticed is that the tractor doesn't have a creeper gear.
A while back someone had a creeper gear for sale in the Appleton area for $175 that was listed on Craigslist. If I recall I seen this tractor listed on CL a while back, our daughter use to live in Sun Prairie years ago, that how I recall seeing it. It's a nice looking tractor for sure. |

Thanks for the info. When it comes to these tractors, I know absolutely nothing. By your comment, a creeper gear can be added on? Is a creeper gear a necessity? I am going to mow and throw with it and that is all. Mowing shouldn't be a problem. Snow throwing might be a different matter. Do I need a creeper? I have a 1 car drive about 50 ft long with a pullover slot. I actually have a 6ft plow blade on my 4x4, but the driveway gives me no place to push it. Hence, a thrower/blower for snow removal. As long as this unit has the mowing deck, I can sell the MTD I have been using for the last 4 or 5 years. Mike |

Living North of your location I plan to use my jeep for the first couple of snow falls or until everything tightens up, then switch over to the Cub. A few weeks ago I picked up 42 inch snowthrower for the 102, a little larger than what I wanted but I figure after the first pass I can adjust the width of the cuts, much like snow plowing. I installed a creeper gear this fall and reduced the pulley on the thower from 4 inch to 3 3/4 inch....I also have a 3 1/2 pulley if I feel the need, both are cast iron with set screws. Without a creeper you maybe doing a lot of clutching in the wet stuff...Utube has a number of videos of Cubs using snowthrowers. I would think that other members will chime in to also offer advice, I just got into these older Cubs myself, having learned here by asking questions. |

Based on your pulley diameter change, you are increasing the auger speed. Is that just your idea plan, or is that something that might need to be done as well. If 1st gear is not really slow enough, approximately how slow is it? I'll look into the creeper gear issue. If that adds too much to the cost, I may have to look into alternatives to my plan. Thanks again. Mike |
Guaranteed, 1st gear will be too fast.
A 100 is far different than an Original with a 10hp. Nothing is built the same aday an O. Increasing rotor speed isn't something than usually needs done. |

Creeper gears can vary in prices, from used to re-build 100 - 300 is what I've seen. Installing them is pretty easy, the hardest part that I found was driving out the pin in the drive shaft. I spilt my 102 to install mine and found it also had a oblong hole in the pinion which I also replaced. I suggest to study up on it and ask questions.....don't get overwhelmed and just take one step at a time. |
