Is my generator charging ?

How do I check my S/G to see if it is charging?

Try this............ S/G Test

Thanks, Roland;
I will do these tests. My amp gauge shows charging now but how much I can't say.
I have been having trouble starting the 301 kolar. When I pull the plug and crank it over I get no spark until I let off the switch then I have a couple good sparks. Makes me think the starter is pulling too much juice or the battery, which is new, in not being charged enough.

Makes me think the ignition switch is bad.....

For a quick test of ignition switch run a jumper wire from the positive post of battery to plus side of the coil and try starting it. If it starts right up you will need to replace the ignition switch. Also check the points , if the gap is way off or the points are burnt replace the points and condenser and set the timing.

Well, I got it running again. It was neither starter nor switch, let me give a little history on this. When I first got the tractor I put a new battery in it. My son in law wanted to help so he put a battery charger on it over night. What he did not do was turn off the key, yup, boiled out the coil, points and condenser along with some wires. I thought I found them all but not quite, the one from the switch to the coil at the switch was the one I missed. It did run for awhile but the wire broke. The reason I was getting no spark.
Thanks for all the help.
