48in deck pulley

I have a 1971 147 with the 48in deck. The tension pulley for the outside blades is worn out. Well actually its the bearing that is shot. I did a bit of looking online but cant seem to find one. Any help please?

The bearing is replaceable after you drill out the spot welds. I bolted mine back together with 1/4" bolts. I found the bearing at TSC.

Thanks i will track that down and get back up and running!

Some idlers are spot welded, some use rivets. It's easier to drill the rivets than the welds.

If you don't have a reference hole to indicate the two halves orientation, drill a hole through both halves so you have a reference on how the go back together.

Thanks for the advice. Not sure i would have thought about that until it was too late.

So i got it apart and found the pully has a sleeve in the center part that is made into the bearing. I figured it was no big deal to modify and make it work with the new bearing. Picked up the new bearing and found that it is too big for my pully. I lost most of the parts to the old bearing so not much to go by there.

the bearing is suppose to be 17x35x10mm then you need a spacer for the center to fit a 3/8 bolt.

So hunting for the proper bearing was not something i had time for right now. I kinda needed it up and running. So i took advantage of the fact that i am a mechanic and got a substitute pully for now. A slight mod to the sleave from the old bearing and i was in business. I meant to take pictures before i installed but i forgot.

After asking for help repairing a pulley on a lawn mower, I wouldn't have admitted to being a "mechanic".

I'd leave on it what you install unless it gives you fits.
