Hydro Temps measured

A few weeks ago I seen a post ask about Hydro Temperature, I don't believe I seen if anyone had any info to offer. Today after mowing for 1.5 hours I decided to document the temperatures on my 1450 Hydro.

This may give you a reference point to start at.

Measurement Equipment: IR hand held with lazer pointer (accuracy +/-3 degrees @ 12 inch)

Test conditions:

Outside ambient Temperature: 84F
Engine no load: 3600 rpm
Trans fluid new: 15 hours on it
Trans Fluid new: 15 hours on it
Trans Fluid Level: Filled even with fill hole
Trans condition: Clean
Hydro Fan condition: New
Parking brake on Hydro in Neutral

Measurements started within one minute of stopping mower. Distance of measurement < 12 inches

Top of Hydro through inspection cover (removed) center of fins : 184F
Front of Hydro between Filter and Charge pump : 180F
Oil Filter : 177F
Rear End at oil suction tube : 175F
Rear End at rear axle Left side (from back): 168F
Rear End at rear axle Right side (from back):168F
Rear End cover under fill hole plug: 165F

Notes: Temperatures at fins drop quickly (expected) ~ 2 degrees per minute engine 3600 rpm.
Temperatures will also vary without side ambient temperatures
True Temperature rise ( measured temp – Ambient = True temp rise)

I just got this temprature after 1-3/4 hours mowing @ 82* air temprature
---782 with power steering
50C deck
some inclines/declines
Universal Hydraulic fluid from tractor supply.
152* constant temp.
yes it is in the oil, as the sensing tip is curved downward.

That's about right trans temp should about the same water temp in most machines, if water cooled. If the temp gets to high it will cook the seals.
