New paint gun
I need a new paint gun, I sold my old siphon feed Binks "Collection" in the 80's and the last gun I purchase 10 years ago to paint few steel doors was a cheap gravity feed Husky with a 1.4 Tip. He still works, but I can't find a 1.8 tip to use it as a primer gun so It's useless for my needs.
Sata or Iwata are crazy expensive! No way I spend that much money on a paint gun and there is no way I spend $150 on a POS DeVilBiss Starting line set either, so I set my budget to $250 for the gun alone, he must work with my 21cfm fix compressor and my portable 10cfm portable unit, a LVLP or HVLP is what I'm looking for. I like the DV Finish line deal on SPG site but any better advice is welcome ;) http://www.spraygunworld.com/product...asePrimer.html |
i actually have a devilbiss starting line set here and both guns spray very well, i think the base/clear gun sprays almost as well as my sata's.
here's a review i did a while back. http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/s...ghlight=review |
love my old binks guns, but I purchased a devilbiss finishline HVLP a few years back and it I like it for Base/clear.
But a good man can make a cheap gun work well. "Quality tools are not a substitute for experience" :beerchug: |
I don't want to poop in your cereal Tim but the DV Starting line got poor reviews everywhere on the net and are apparently not better than all those anodized Chinese guns you can find on EB, they need a lot of air volume and I doubt the little TRUE 3hp 10cfm@90Lb portable compressor I build can't keep up feeding them. (I need a mobile setup)
Affordable Astro, Asturo and few Iwata copies out there got good reviews, but most are done by the average Joe (like me) or newbie saying they like the anodized color.. Go figure!:bash2: Quote:

How much are you going to use it? If your gonna be using it for a business, then I'd buy a professional gun. If your gonna shoot now and then I've used the harbor frieght hvlp guns with good results. I used their larger gun to shoot my 1200 and used their smaller one so far on my 1211. It's a knockoff of the sata gun, I didn't have any issues with it.

If I count my 3 son projects +2 motorcycle + 3 Cub Cadet and a trailer let's say about 10 times but who knows! My retirement is imminent! (2 or 4 years) I want to restore a nice convertible! Ideally a Porsche Boxter S! I'm not done buying toys yet! I will never paint a Porsche with an HF gun! No no no...LOL I like the DV finish line, he fit my budget and as far I'm concern if the painter know what he's doing a little bit... (I'm far from there yet LOL) Enough say, DV FL it is and I let my 3 boys deal with it. Thank you folks for your suggestion. Ps: The Porsche? I have a friend who own a paint shop, I pay him! LMAO |
Thanks on the panel! No I wouldn't paint a Porsche with a hf gun either! Lol

Okay, I gotta ask a question here. How good is this type of system?

Post 201 give this link to build a turbine on the cheap: https://books.google.com.ag/books?id...%20Rig&f=false I like it! I's portable and minimize overspray, I just wonder if the gun do a good job atomizing the paint, warm air can dry the paint before hitting the surface, you need to stay close and run fast I suppose?:HeadScratch: |

Exactly my experience using a turbine set up years ago, Maybe they have made then better now. I would stick with a "normal" hvlp gun if it were me. Randy |
