Trip to Maryland part II: Repairs

3 Attachment(s)
This is part II of my trip to Maryland thread I'm the General Talk section. I'll post pics of repairs we do to my brothers machines here, as he has all IH built machines.

Today, we decided to tackle some min or fixes to his 127. Front steering was loose. He bought some very good used pieces to repair with, but so far we haven't needed any. Found a broken spirol pin at the pitman arm on the left spindle. Changed it out. Tightened up the nut on the bottom of the steering box and some loose mounting bolts. Tie Rods are shot, but he's going to order him joints from McMaster to repair later.
PTO started slipping when he was mowing the other day. Pulled it off and apart. Found it had been rebuilt not long ago. I smacked the spring back into shape, as it had been over tightened and we put it back together and adjusted it properly. We'll test it on the mower later.

Not much to take pics of, but I took a few. I'll upload them later. Site keeps giving me a generic err while trying to load them....:bigthink:

Edit: I resized the pics manually. Here they are. :biggrin2:

Sounds like a fun adventure. How well does it pay? :bigthink: :biggrin2:

Did the decision on the method for fixing the PTO come after a few beer and swimming sessions? :biggrin2:

Sounds like some "quality" brother time...:beerchug:

Free room and board, a pool, free beer.... I'd say it pays well. :biggrin2:

All right!!
Today's goal is to disassemble the 126, wash up the frame, rear and engine. We plan to take all the tins off the motor and clean it. Install a creeper, fix the broken teaser spring, flip the gas tank and install a sediment bowl. Should be a day!

We got started about noon.

Very nice 126!!

We disassembled it in about 20 minutes......

Working without all my "cool tools" sometimes makes things interesting. My bro doesn't have a press or a vice, but we needed to replace the broken teaser spring. It kept getting jammed on the driveshaft and wouldn't let the clutch completely disengage, making it hard to get into gear. Driveshaft has to come out to cut it off for the creeper, so I suggested we do it systematically so we didn't have to build a tool to compress the spring to replace the teaser. So, after pulling the engine, we set the brake, and removed the clutch and replaced the teaser. Lance held a big hammer on the shaft to absorb the hit as I drove the pins out and back in. Yeah, the driveshaft is pretty wore. Lance said he will get a new one at a later date. At least he knows how to take it all apart now!!

Then we took a lunch break and I made these posts....
Now, heading back out to completely remove the driveshaft and rear end. Then probably start power washing. Then it will be take a swim, because it's hot, while the machine dries from it's bath. :biggrin2:

I'll say thank you Allen, but I'm sure Lance will comment after bit too! It is in great shape. Except the ugly bulldog and painted rims.... but the bulldog is off now, and he has another hood without holes if he needs it. He will paint the rims sometime too he says. :beerchug:
