Broke PTO clutch, need help
1 Attachment(s)
I was mowing today with my 129 and noticed the PTO would not disengage. On further inspection it seems the piece that connects the clutch to the lever has broken. I've attached a picture.
I've never rebuilt a clutch or anything. Anyone have any experience fixing this problem? What part do I need and am I looking at taking apart and rebuilding the whole clutch? Any advice would be much appreciated. |
Ok, I'm doing a little research in the technical section (great resource!) and it looks like that wear button is not supposed to be attached, but why won't the clutch disengage? Do I just need to make an adjustment?

Your pic isn't the best so I can't see real well, does the lever still have the wear button on it?
|
The wear button is still there, though I'm not sure what kind of shape it's in.

If it's wore thin it might not be pushing on the pto enough to disengage it, you could try adjusting the rod to tighten the gap just to see if it solves the issue but I wouldn't run it that way for long, if it works you can get a new wear button ( I recommend one from Jeff in PA)but if it doesn't then you know the pto needs work. The gap between the wear button and the pto should be about the thickness of a matchbook cover.

Thanks, I'll try adjusting it tighter tomorrow morning. I'll post an update of my progress.

I wouldn't mess with adjusting it. I can see the center button in your pic cocked sideways. I think it wore through the fingers. You'll likely end up with a bigger mess if you try to tighten it.
Post better pics. That one is too far away, and it's too dark. Didn't you notice that you can't see anything in it?? |
