Just picked up a model 72

And besides a few minor adjustments to eliminate a few rattles, I need to pick up the belt that goes from the front PTO to the 42" mowing deck (what's that belt called?). Could someone please tell me what size (length and width) belt I need to drive the mowing deck? Will post pictures later today. Thanks very much in advance. Paul, Providence, RI

IH-490489-R2, thank god for Google

The mower deck deck drive belt for this tractor with a 42"deck calls for an IH-490489-R2 belt , which tells me nothing about the length or width of the belt. However, a Google search brought up an Ebay listing for said belt and listed it as an 81 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch wide. Off to Tractor supply I went and bought both an 81 and an 82 inch belt as apparently Tractor supply doesn't carry half sizes. Turns out that the 82 inch belt fit the best so on it went , but during the install I noticed that the center "button" of the PTO clutch was pretty worn so I figured I may as well make this right , right now. I was fortunate enough to have a complete PTO overhaul kit so I completely rebuilt the PTO before running the mower deck. So without further delay, here are some pics. And yes, the original owner did some touchup work with a spray can, but he did use the correct paint. http://gallery.audioasylum.com/cgi/g...f=dsc_0455.jpg http://gallery.audioasylum.com/cgi/g...f=dsc_0456.jpg
[/IMG]

Looks great

It looks great . But. I would be a little concerned where that fancy exhaust stack necks down. You really don't want that to get hot. :biggrin2:
