Hyrdo

Looking to buy a cub but the reliefs valves on hydro are seized up. The guy has it in his garage and rolls it around when needed if it gets in his way. With him rolling it around a little bit would that cause much damage? He said it's only been moved a hand full of times and only a few feet each time.

Not a problem rolling it around like that.:beerchug:

I had always been told that the hydro must be released before you move it or it would mess it up. That was reason the reliefs were on there

No, there are on there so it will roll. Without them, you couldn't roll it as it would be hydro locked. Actually.... not so much hydro locked as it is that the gear ration going backwards through the trans prevents it. Kind of like trying to push a manual car when it's off and in first gear... just ain't gonna happen.

What is the purpose of the release lever on the tunnel cover?

To push the buttons on the relief valves on the hydro..... ???

Is that what you mean?

You don't mention what model tractor you're looking at, without that information it's impossible to answer your question.

If it is a Cub with the Sunstrand transmission it is possible that it has been damaged but I seriously doubt it, if what the owner says is true.

I see morons on ebay and craigslist all the time with Sunstrands for sale from $75.00 to $200.00

A good Sunstrand transmission is worth its weigh in gold, because they are so durable. On the other side of the coin, since they are nearly bulletproof, I almost never sell one because they never go bad.

That said: I've got a dozen of them laying on a shelf that I personally have seen run. I'll sell you however many you want for a very reasonable price.

It's a cub 149, 74 model. Rebuilding the same tractor. Wanted it for parts but might just use it as extra tractor is hydro isn't damaged. Yes I was talking about the buttons that are supposed to be pushed into to move. How do I know if it's the tranny you are talking about

J-Mech 07-23-2016 12:11 AM

It won't have a bad hydro. Rolling it by hand won't hurt it. Now, if he hooked it up to his 4 wheeler and towed it down the road at 15 MPH for a half mile.... yeah, it likely wouldn't survive.

ALL the hydro's are the same from the 123 up to the some of the cyclops. (SGT's use a different output gear size, but it's still the same pump.) Only difference is some have a ported pump for hydraulic lift, and some don't. 149 should have a ported pump.

Am I correct, the lever is to push the buttons down to correctly move tractor around when not running?
