129 rear PTO
 

I purchased a very nice 129 with a 14 hp Kohler. Excellent shape. Initially just bought it to mow, but started digging around and it has all kinds of possibilities. For my country property, I usually use my Ford 8 N for a little harder work, but the 129 can do it, and a lot easier, so it seems.

OK - from what I have read, the 129 does NOT have the rear PTO option? Is this correct? I would love to get a 0 cat bush hog type of mower for it and other tools.

Am I correct in my reading that the 1650 rear end will fit the 129? I would just got get a 1650, but I like my 129 and it has a newly rebuilt engine and I like the way it looks.

So that my question, will the 1650 read end with PTO fit onto a 129?

The only cub cadet with rear pto is a super. 1650 rear end will fit . You can't put a rear pto on it

The rear PTO on any cub is basically worthless, the PTO on a cub spins at 2000rpm and in the wrong direction for many readily available attachments. You can find attachments that will work on it but it will take a lot of looking and be prepared to get your wallet out.

Early narrow frames also had a rear PTO option, also with few attachments.

The 2000 rpm rear pto wasn't introduced until the 982 in 1979. The older NF gear drives had rear pto but nothing was ever built for them.

Keep the Cadet for mowing and ditch the 8N antique for something modern. A small Deere made by Yanmar back in the late 80's is a tough machine to beat. I used to run one 30 years ago and it was a serious machine. The only thing it didn't have was load and depth control on the 3pt. Cadets seem to excel at mowing, snow plowing and blowing, and running the rear mounted garden tillers and plows. Other than that you are pretty much trying to imitate a full sized tractor. First things first, the Rear PTO was only available on gear drive Cub Cadets, they did turn the wrong direction for most practical applications and they turned at 514 rpm.

There are those however who mistakenly call a 90 degree gearbox (mounted on the back of a Cub Cadet) a rear pto. The 90 degree gear box was primarily used for driving a rotary tiller. You may want to do a little research on that and see what other things people have used them for (I personally can't think of any other manufactured attachments that were driven by a rear mounted 90 degree gear box).

Yes, a 1650 trans-axle will fit into your 129 but once again the 1650 is a hydrostatic drive tractor and there is no rear PTO for a hydro drive tractor.

Wide frame gear drives could have a rear PTO as well. 86, 108, 128, 800, 1200, etc...........

I always thought the shaft coming out of the hydrostatic transmission at the top plate was a rear pto for a WF cub cadet. It even has a hole in it for a pin........my miss steak.
