Rear cover removal with rear PTO
Hey guys, I have been reading a lot about replacing the hydro oil and it seems everyone recommends removing the rear cover and doing a complete clean out. This makes total sense, but i have the factory rear PTO on my 1914. It has always ran HyTran, but its always good to be sure things are cleaned up. With the rear PTO in place, is it a big job to get to the rear cover? Are there any special tools that are needed for this job?
Thanks! |
No special tools and probably an extra hour of work to remove the lift and pto. The Hytran will capture any water in the system and turn it to muck, this is why it needs to be cleaned out.

Sounds good. Sounds like a good weekend project.
One more question...i have about a half gallon of leftover HyTran that is in a gallon jug that is about 10 years old. It has a cap on it...is it shot? Only 2 weeks left until she comes home. Perhaps with a snowblower if my wife lets me. :) Still searching for that PTO tiller if anyone has a line on one! |
If you don't see any globs in it, it's probably fine. I used to have a couple of quart containers from the early 90's that were 3/4 full, and they were fine.

Good deal. I hate throwing away that liquid gold if I don't have to.
