wheel refurbishment
2 Attachment(s)
I picked up a pair of CC rear wheels a week ago from an old family friend who used to work on CC's when I was a kid. I guess that's partly why I'm fascinated with them today. Anyway, I went there with the intent to purchase them but he told me I could have them because he would just end up giving them to a junk man anyway. All it cost me was about a 30 minute visit talking with a 79 year old man and I think that was payment enough for him. Man how things have changed in my old neighborhood where I grew up. I digress.
I started stripping the layers of paint this weekend and here are a few pictures. When I was buffing the old paint I noticed there are some numbers stamped on the rim along with rim size and "Firestone". Are any of these other numbers the date of manufacture? I forgot to take pictures of the finished painted wheels but I'll do that today. Luckily the rims were in excellent condition and only had surface rust. |

here are the wheels finished as well as the numbers on the rim that are in question

my guess is a model or a batch number

My manufacture date was labeled on the inside of the rim, where the tire goes over, on the main hub of the rim of my 10.5's. Nice resto by the way!!!

Thanks! When I first saw the numbers I thought they were made in April of '66. Of course I have nothing to base that on, just a hunch. However, if that is the case, it's pretty cool that they would be that old and still around and now I have them.

has anybody tried to chrome the rims before? just asking for possible mod down the road
