149 Hood latch assembly
 

Can someone post some pics of the hood latch assembly on the hood of a 149 or similar tractor?

I have the springs on the dashboard side, but there is nothing on the bottom the hood for them to grab ahold of. Curious what it looked like originally and what i might be able to fab up. I can't seem to find the actual latch piece listed anywhere.

Don't have a picture but the hood should have a strip of steel, about 1" by 1/8" spot welded across the inside at the rear. As you lower the hood that strip goes down in the area between your battery and the pedestal. You then push up on the springs which come down on the top of that strip of steel, and latch the springs into the little tabs sticking out of the pedestal.

You should also have a hood rest that bolts to the front of the pedestal at the top. It is part no. IH-544188-R1. Supposed to keep the hood from resting on the fiberglass cowl.

My battery is under the seat on my 149. Did you mean the gas tank?

But I think I understand what you are saying. There are 2 holes on each side of my hood. Looks like a rod or something bolted there, but perhaps the spot welds broke and put holes there.

Perhaps I could bend up a piece of steel and bolt it in place. I don't have a welder.

Yes those holes do look like they would have been for the spot welds.
If you are not concerned about looks I dont see why you couldn't use a piece of threaded rod completely across with a nut inside and outsde on each side.

That's what I was thinking. It's not that I'm not completely concerned about looks, but when there are already holes there, a couple acorn nuts aren't going to look any worse lol.

Maybe I'll try that first and see how well it works. Something's gotta be better than nothing.
