107 hydrostatic release mechanism broke.
 

I could not get the lever to release the hydrostatic drive... I pulled up on it too hard and something snapped. Somehow during the move in a trailer, it released. Now I have a broken lever and hydro is released. I'm trying to get the fenders off to see in there but have to cut some bolts on the foot rests in the morning...too dark to work now. Ddoes anyone have a picture how this release lever is connected? I hope i didn't break it too badly.

The reason I had to release it, was it wouldn't turn over, some electrical connection, likely the key switch. I'll get to that after it apart.

I love this old 107 but sometimes its a pain to work on.

It, the flap is connected to the handle with a roll pin, but most likely the flap broke.

Since the 107 is a Narrow Frame model of a tractor, you will have to crawl underneath and look for this.

As an educated guess, the reason you had to pull up hard was probably due to the Relief Valve "pins" being dirty and/or dry. Clean them up and use some PB Blaster and make sure the pins have free travel.

The Manual Relief Valve looks like the one on the RH of the attached image.

looks like i may have to take the entire console off to get at that?

got all the bolts out except for the flat heads on the left foot rest. i'll have to grind them off. I'll replace with Stainless bolts.

the reason i pulled, up past the stop point, is because i'm ignorant. i didn't know how it should work. its not marked which direction is release....or if you have to hold it.

This is a "typical" sticker that may have faded or fallen off over time.

The damage can't be too severe. Broken Flapper or the pins that hold the flapper on.

You said it released while towing it on the trailer? So it freewheels now? Does the tractor run? If it does start it up and see if it drives. Sometimes the manual release valves can "leak down" when the tractor is off for a while and will freewheel but work fine under power. If that is the case, the broken flapper will only be an issue next time you need to roll the tractor right after shutting it off and wouldn't require an immediate tear down.

that is indeed whats wrong. the flapper is broken off. I see its held on with a small roll pin. can a flapper be bought still???
not that i really need it. lived until now without even knowing it had a release. :)
my problem might be now that it is stuck in release. i can roll the chassis around without that lever pushed. maybe they vlaves are pushed in and stuck now.
it looks like that part that holds the release lever(cover pictured above) is welded to the main frame. how can i get that off?
can i get those valves out without removing the cover overtop?
is there pressure behind those?

YUP, you sure can. Now IF.......you can going to keep and maintain the "manual" type of relief valves, then this flapper (actuator) is need. IF......you change out the the Relief Valves to the "automatic" type (which is now current), there is no need for this flapper.

IIRC, once you remove the pins, the Release Handle slides out.

If the engine is off, there is NO pressure.

Those valves get sticky - they're in under the cover and somewhat difficult to reach so they rarely get the attention that they probably should. I've noticed on my 147 (much like your 107) that they'll often stay down when released until I start it up and then they pop up and it'll move on its own. I always spend a little time working in some light machine oil when I have the seat/fender assy off. I will also put some grease on the trunion springs and linkage. Keeps us movin'! Since you're in there, clean any dirt off of the hydro unit. If it's been mowing it'll likely be clogged with dirt, oil and grass.
